"You love him don't you." He looked up into my eyes.

"I'm sorry. You don't deserve this." I couldn't stop the tears from escaping my eyes.

Crack.

That's the sound of my heart breaking in two.

"I never really stood a chance, you guys really do belong together." He continued. His hands were in fists by his sides. His jaw clenched and unclenched.

He looked into my eyes with a fixed hardness, but there was a sadness underneath them. I know him better than that.

My heart is shattering into irreparable pieces as I tell him I've chosen and it's not him. He looks crestfallen but I can see him putting his walls back up as we speak.

The night is gloomy, the sky silent, a brilliant shade of twilight blue. The bright, white moon illuminating the surface, a spattering of stars surrounded it.

Somewhere in the world right now, there are people rejoicing and celebrating, but we are not one of them. Here, only the darkness and silent of the night embrace us as we stand here in the yard.
