Jade and Lucy are twin sisters, one born with the power of light, one born with the power of darkness. Lucy received her celestial abilities from her mother, while Jade received her demonic abilities from her uncle, Layla's twin.
When Jade was born her father immediately outcasted her, deeming the child satanic and refused to let Lucy see her. This made her childhood, her entire life a literal hell.
Maybe that's why Lucy found happiness in Fairy Tail, and Jade found her solitude in Phantom Lord.
