Being poor just meant you have to be savvy, and if that means taking from other people's trash to survive then so be it. When Yara sees a perfectly good box of old books at the end of the Leaver's driveway, she takes it. She almost forgets about Amanda Leaver, the youngest daughter of the Leaver family who died two years ago. She almost forgets... until one of the books in the box is actually a secret diary from the dead girl.
And in it, a detailed account of boy whom she loved.
Amanda mentions everything about him, except for his name. Yara sets out to discover who he is, and in the process, falls in love reading about a boy who exists in the words of a dead girl.
