The Whitechapel is an area in London, it is where this heavily fictionalized story set.
The whitechapel area is a scandalous area, where the rich live in fancy huge houses, and the poor live in the most modest houses you will ever see, the area is also famous for having the biggest brothel in England.
The Whitechapel murderer (also known as Jack The Ripper) was a serial killer at that area, there is no confirmed number of victims but some speculates that there were 5 victims or more.
