"Y-you're lying," she stammered, inwardly cursing herself for sounding weak and afraid. "I know you're lying. It just can't be true. It can't be. It can't-"
The girl collapsed into sobs, unable to put into words the thoughts swirling around in her head. She couldn't believe it. Didn't want to believe it.
She hid her face in her hands, not wanting to lose any more of the little pride she had left.
"I am not," he said, his voice strong and commanding, yet alluring. He looked at the girl crying at his feet. "You are part of this world now, my dear."
She raised her head, peaking her face out from behind her hands. Her glistening eyes searched his face for any hint of humor, for any sign that would tell her this was all make believe and he was lying.
Finding none, a few more tears escaped.
"Please," she whispered. She didn't want to beg but he left her no choice. She felt her pride slipping away.
"It is already done." His decision was absolute.

His eyes were red-rimmed, his hair tousled like he had been running his hand through it over and over again.
