Ilena Romanov is back in Russia as part of the Russian royal family and as a criminology professor at Saint Petersburg State University. One day she goes to Paris to lecture on the mind of a serial killer alongside her fellow professor, and boyfriend, Raymond Menshikov. They lecture then something strange happens. A manuscript of Ilena's research book on the minds of serial killers shows up in the arms of the body of a member of the Sovereign High Council of the Wolf who has been in a relationship with a member of the Congress of the Veiled Chalice which sees the mind as a sacred thing.
