Excerpt from Chapter 1: Rags
"Opening my eyes, all I could see was darkness, an unending void. Air filled my lungs and I felt cold air beat across the back of my head, I was dropping out of the sky. "Well Fu-"I was cut off by the feeling of a hole being pierced in my torso, I looked down to see a broken branch jutting out of me. I gasped and tried to wrap my hands around the broken wood. I tilted my head and laid it on the hardened snow. "Well this definitely isn't how I pictured going out." I felt surges go through my veins, purple energy lined the hole around the branch and sliced it in half. My torso filled itself, forcing the other end of the branch out as it did."

I blinked. My eyes began focusing on shapes. I could hear murmuring voices. I could smell medication. I could taste blood. I could feel scratchy blankets lying over my frail body. Three humans, talking under their breaths. A blue cast on my leg. Another on my arm. Stitches in my other 'leg'. More stitches on my face neck and chest. A huge stapled gash across my entire stomach, starting from my shoulder and going in a diagonal line straight across my body and ending at my hip bone. It had just avoided my heart. Tubes were threaded through my arms and other areas of my stomach. I was suddenly very aware of the amount of pain I was in. I cried out in pain and all three people turned to me. The middle one lurched forwards and took a needle from the side. The other two fussed around me, rethreading the tubes and checking that they were all fully functional. A sharp, aching pain pierced my neck and I caught the middle guy with a needle in my neck. My vision slowly began blurring again.Complete

I decided to move away and to try and find an exit but I didn't even take one step back when I heard his voice. "Princess? Is that you?" I saw him raise his head before shooting his eyes onto me. The sudden gaze caused to heart to race while it froze my body as if I have turned into ice. I felt the fear engulf my body, eating me inside out. "You aren't scared of me... Are you?" he asked me, I sensed the envy in his voice. That mixed with his harsh tone caused a wave of goosebumps to course through my body. I wanted to begin by asking him where was I? Why was I here? Why was he here... I wanted to ask him, but I couldn't, the fear was just all too much for me. "Come on... Speak to me... Ask me..." he began. "Ask me 'why am I here' and all of that crap... Entertain me with your fear." I saw him slowly gripping a knife that was on the countertop, with his eyes still on mine. The sides of his mouth slowly began tilting upwards. All the bitterness and the cold, it was all so visible in his eyes. I looked at him in horror, noticing him as he took his first steps towards me. "Talk to me... Because this might be the only time you will ever be able to talk, " he said this sentence in such a calm tone, it caused me once again to shiver with goosebumps. He whispers as I felt something sharp on the side of my waist that was piercing the surface of my skin. My heart pounds heavily my breathing became strained causing me to exhale faster and heavier. We stood inside my bedroom feet away from my sleeping husband he pulls me closer to his body moving backwards to the hallway. I could only follow hoping that my life would be spared. Suddenly, we stopped by the edge of the staircase. "You're mine." He whispers in a hoarse tone placing a kiss on my cheek hitting me on the head with the back of the knife. I was seeing double. I was feeling dizzy, everything was spinning. I felt like I was in slow motion groaning at the pain looking down the stairs. That's the last thing I see before I black out. "Shit" I swore holding my nose, it seemed broken and the effect of our collision drew some blood. "Gosh, I'm so sorry" a soft feminine voice apologizes "I swear, I didn't notice you were there" she says again. I turn around and I'm face to face with what initially I thought should be a goddess, hair and body wrapped in towels. She seemed to notice the blood from my nose. "You need to fix that" she says pointing towards my nose.at that she takes my hand pulling me into a room which i think is hers. Rummaging through a drawer, she retrives a cotton wool, taking a piece of it, she presses it to my nose and holds it there. I'm surprised by this gesture, but there really was no need for this, my body was beginning to heal already. One of the many benefits of possessing abilities as mine. I immediately seized the opportunity to study her. She had a straight face, slightly pointed nose. Her small, luscious lips were slightly parted. With skin glowing like crystals, I was ready to bet my skin she really was a goddess among other girls. My eyes travelled away from her face....downwards... The towel that covered her body was incredibly short revealing a pair of beautifully tanned legs... Instantly my testosterone began to skyrocket. And then I caught her scent... She is just HUMAN... But I could sense something about her, something different.Complete

My eyes widened and I looked at my hands. "Did I do that?" I asked, but before I could answer, I heard a guard shout for backup as they had heard the ice shattering. I quickly jumped up and stashed the crystal in my pocket before leaving. I crept to the cave the following day, putting the crystal back into the remains of the ice pillar. As I walked away, the crystal fell, causing it to break into a million pieces. I jumped at the sudden noise and stumbled backwards, my eyes widening as a black smog formed around the crystal. "No, no, no, no! Frick." I desperately tried to grab the remains of the crystal, causing one to cut my hand. "Ow! Shit." I whispered, looking at my bleeding hand. "Tch, tch, tch, poor child." A demonic voice said. I looked up and saw that the black smog had two red eyes and a wide, sick smile that was dripping with venom. "I- who are you?" I asked, backing up. "The one who can help you out of here." It said, stretching out a hand. I looked it up and down and before I could answer, its hand plunged into my heart, causing me to scream out in pain. It was a dark cold night-the night where the birds lay dead on the cold ground, listening in to the deceased whispers. This is the night where blood was once spilled. Jeremy hid behind a tree, holding on his thigh-his thigh was bleeding as he got stabbed. Jeremy looked at his wound, cursing under his breath. Jeremy looked around to see if anyone was nearby, there wasn't anyone nearby but he could hear the screaming of his pals. He could do nothing but to weep, he got out of his hiding spot and went deeper into the woods. He was wincing in pain as he dragged his injured leg. It was dark, too dark to the point even the moonlight couldn't provide light. Jeremy tripped over a tree root, he winced in pain, squeezing his injured thigh in pain. He soon heard a twig being snapped close to him. He pulled himself together, getting back on his feet. Dragging his leg once more. This time he raised the pace, panicking as he knew that he was being followed. He soon came across an abandoned truck that was in a small field. He smiled in relief, getting inside of the truck. He heard movement from his right, seeing a silhouette of a being that was coming closer to him. He panicked, climbing to the other seat to close the door. Once the door was closed, he locked the doors-backing away after. The door handle was being pulled aggressively but soon stopped. He took off his jacket and wrapped it around his thigh, he winced in pain as he made it tight. He looked around the truck, trying not to move too much. He eventually found a pen and a piece of paper. The rain started running down my face as I started thinking of a way out of here. My body trembled in fear knowing that he could easily hurt me. I'm not strong against someone like him Thoughts raced through my mind as I tried to think of a way to get away from him. But there was nothing but endless trees around me. I blinked away the water running into my eyes due to the rain. My thoughts were disturbed when he suddenly spun me around to face him, his face just inches away from mine. "P-Please don't hurt m-me." I stuttered out. I tried to sound brave and not let my fear show, but my mouth betrayed me. His golden red eyes flickered with a hint of pain for a moment then back to a cold stare, "I'd never hurt you, never put you in harm's way and I'm never letting him take you from me, you're mine." He said in a deep low voice, almost a growl, and his eyes seemed to have gotten darker. 'What the hell is that supposed to mean?!' I tried taking a step back but his grip on my arm tightened. It hurt. "L-let me go, you, you're hurting me!" I looked up at him scared, his eyes were now completely dark, and the next thing I noticed were pointed teeth poking out from his lips. I screamed and pushed at him but he didn't budge. I then raised my knee and kneed him between the legs with all my force, and he dropped like a rock, holding his groin. Run. I took my chance. And ran. ~~~ Nora Brown, a normal adult, living a normal life. Moving away from home to start fresh and meet new people. Just going where life takes her.
