After a night on the town, Sarah wakes up to a miserable hangover. But it's nothing compared to what comes next. After attempting to light a cigarette, she feels that something isn't quite right. Soon she'll discover that everything is very wrong. My entry in the Open Novella Contest III, Feb 2020. April 28. Just got the news that Thirteen Points has made it through the second round. Now I have to finish by May 5th. I'm not as far along as I had hoped at this point, but I'm sure I can make it. May 4th. 12:10 am. Finished. Submitted. Good night. May 20th. Well, 13 Points made the Long List. I have no idea how many original entries there were but about 940 made the first cut. There's 150 on the Long List. Not bad for my first time out. Now we'll wait and see how we fare on the Short List. May 30th. Well, Sarah and company didn't make the Short List. I can't say I'm disappointed though. "You're lying." Zavier spoke so low that even he barely heard his words himself. "Huh?" He picked up the volume of his voice this time, "You're lying." "No I'm not." "Okay, so if I was to come this close-" Zavier lifted Isaac's face by his chin and brought his face close to his. "- You would feel nothing." Isaac's nerves began to rise a bit, but maybe it was because of the alcohol that he wasn't terrified, "Yes. Exactly that." He agreed. "Even if our lips-" Zaviers lips brushed his, increasing his heart rate rapidly. It didn't last long, but it was enough to send Isaac's mind into a frenzy. "-brushed like this, you wouldn't feel anything." Isaac couldn't trust his voice, so just nodded, being full aware of the fact his cheeks were most definitely glowing red. "You lie a lot Isaac." Zavier whispered against his lips and leaned closer, making it look like he was about to close the gap. Isaac's eyes closed, expecting a pair of lips to meet his, but he was instead met with a bit of breeze from Zavier leaning backwards. A story where two boys find they have more in common than they'd like to think.

Alex has been looking for a sign from the universe. A sign to tell him that he needs to keep fighting. To live on for his brother who died in a tragic car accident. When Alex stumbles across a man in town wearing a blindfold, holding a sign that says, 'You are not alone. If you need a talk or a hug. I am here.' He takes it upon himself to approach the stranger. Was this the sign he has been looking for? - River has been a mental health advocate for three years. With his own demons battled, he takes it upon himself to support others. More specifically strangers. He has always found peace in helping those who suffer in silence. When River is approached by a man who expresses his depressive tendencies, he decides to take the broken stranger for coffee, out of fear of what might happen if he lets him go. River tells him to offload, release all the sadness and frustration he has into someone who knows nothing about him. But when he leaves, River can't stop thinking about him. It's not until Alex comes back a few months later to thank him for listening when he needed help the most. Alex has a lot to thank for his signs from the universe.

It didn't place in the Top 5 and win, but it did receive a very kind Honorable Mention from the Wattpad Ambassadors who ran the contest. I am deeply thankful for all of you who read and enjoyed this story. Parts 2 and 3 (turning this into an entire novel length story) are currently being worked on. This story is based on the following two prompts ... with some liberties taken: 4. When something tragic happens, it's often said we lose a piece of ourselves. How far would you go to find these lost parts of yourself in order to be whole again? 45. You are possessed by a demon. The only way to cast it out is to kill 7 people - each representing one of the 7 virtues.
