Twenty six year old Josh is nowhere near where he'd thought he would be at this point in his life. A college dropout working as a pizza delivery man, his life is about as ordinary as it could be. One night while making the last delivery of his shift, Josh saves the life of a stranger, a twenty four year old named Sarah, who had attempted to commit suicide in front of his very eyes.

Deciding to respect Sarah’s wishes, Josh doesn’t take her to the hospital, but refuses to leave her alone out of fear that she will attempt to harm herself. Instead, he takes her back to his apartment, expecting to have a difficult time breaking through the woman’s walls and helping her out. However, he is surprised to find he actually enjoys spending time with Sarah and might even be developing feelings for her.

Once Sarah accepts that Josh only wants to help her, she becomes quite comfortable with her new life. For the first time in her life, she feels like she belongs somewhere, but her newfound happiness can only last for so long before her past comes back to haunt her. As it turns out, she hasn't been completely honest with her new friends about what drove her to commit suicide and inadvertently puts everyone she cares about in danger.

Dr Palmer becomes more and more involved in Caleb’s life, trying to help him see that his life is worth living through various methods. Caleb gets his life back on track, enrolling at college and even meeting a girl whom he used to know as a child. The two of them begin to date each other, and everything seems great for a while. That is, until Caleb remembers the reason that he tried to commit suicide in the first place, revealing a secret that shatters his new found confidence. As things at home begin to deteriorate too, Caleb’s situation goes from bad to worse. The only person who knows the truth, Dr Palmer, leaves him to stand on his own two feet, declaring him cured. He starts back at college full time, and becomes ever closer with Stephanie, the only person whom he feels that he can trust. When his own father attacks his mother, Caleb begins to think that the police are on to him, trying to unravel his past, thinking that they have realised what happened to cause him to try to commit suicide. However, they are just trying to build a case against his father. In desperation, Caleb tried to reach out to Dr Palmer, against the advice of his mother. As his life spirals out of control, Dr Palmer makes him realise that the only way he can carry on is to come clean and reveal his secret. In a shocking final twist, everything is revealed to be not what it seems, and Caleb finds out that he will be ok, no matter what happens to him.
