When Harriet Watts is sent to live with her Father and his new perfect family in California for the summer, she feels nothing but dread and contempt for his lifestyle. She would never forgive him for what he did to her mother. Yet as the weeks go on, and the season gets warmer, she finds herself settling in much more smoothly than she had expected. His family, as it turned out, weren't half bad, and through new friends, crushes, adventures and experiences she feels what it's like to be happy again in a long time. Just when she thinks her life is the worst it can possibly get, it turns itself around, and she finally feels like she is living as the real teenager she was always meant to be (ish....)
