After her parents' continuous rough arguments, Dagny Leopard's grandparents decide to move her and her family to the small town of Santee, California, in hopes of mending their relationship. Dagny doesn't like this at all. It's hot, sunny, and small in Santee, the total opposite of her old home in Washington. What more, she has to move to this strange new place all by herself! Her parents have things to take care of, her sister has summer camp, and her grandparents refuse to help her. Dagny's desperate; it's summer break, she's not familiar with the area, and she knows no one in town. Except for Riley Hirst.
Riley Hirst has got to be the rudest, meanest, most arrogant -and not to mention hot- guy she's ever met. After a terrible first meeting, and an even worse second one, Dagny decides she doesn't like him - nor does he like her. He pulls mean jokes on her, calls her rude names, and has set out to make her life miserable. But, when one joke gets too far, things suddenly start to change. Nothing's the same anymore. Everything she's started to get used to, everything she thought she knew, might all be taken away. The only person there to help her is Riley, and as much as she hates to admit it, she's starting to like his company.
