It all starts when Toby Cavanaugh needed a tutor. Spencer Hastings, AKA smart girl, decides to get to know him, so she starts tutoring. Slowly Spencer starts to fall in love. Toby on the other hand, has a girlfriend. The girl ends up dumping him for Toby's brother, Damon. Spencer and Elena Gilbert had been friends since the 1st grade. Spencer went to her when she found out Toby's ex, Yvonne Phillips, dumped him. She asked for advice for dating. Toby realizes he is in love with Spencer and goes for her.
