The Abuse of a Friend

Nick and Alex have been friends since they were young, when you saw one you could always bet the other wasn't that far behind. Plus, they happen to live right by each other. But lately Alex has been act differently, she's been wandering off late in the night or early in the morning. When Nick is on the phone with her and could hear screaming from her mother in the background, he gets even more concerned. Alex sounds panicked when she says she has to go when you could hear boots stomping throughout the house toward her bedroom. He plans to confront her the next day at school, but she doesn't show. She happens to not show up for the next week either. He shows up at her house expecting to find her sick or something, he does not expect to find her mother there beaten and shaking. He quickly runs home and calls the cops, when they get there, his heart sinks with dread. Alex and her dad are not to be found. The cops give up after a week of searching, but Nick doesn't want too give up just yet. Call it intuition if you must. But he doesn't want to be the one to give up on her.
