The sound of beeping cascades from the monitors, billowing off the walls and crashing, blending with the thunderous noise the hospital naturally emits. It appears to her as a hum of sorts, filling the darkness she feels with colors. The brightest blues, most exquisite pinks and sultry yellows fill her veins, grounding her within herself. Time feels slow, the colors swirling with thickness, anchoring her to the white sheets, suffocating her without any warning signs to the bodies just beyond her reach. It was hard to fathom, a ripple in the lives they claimed to be perfect, and yet she had no idea how hard things had just become.

My hand slaps against my mouth as I try to shut myself up. Don't make too much noise...or he'll hear you. A vehicle's door opens then slams shut. I don't hear footsteps...but as the minutes go by I begin to hear them; the footsteps get louder and louder and louder, matching the sound of my thundering heart.
