My feet sliced easily through the water and it engulfed my body as I landed, my legs flailing to touch a bottom that no longer seemed to exist. The water was never warm on the Island, but now I could never feel warmer, as I swam next to Elle, sputtering as Charlotte jumped into the salty water too, splashing a smattering of navy-black drops around us. It was terrifying a beautiful at the same time, Charlotte gone, gone under the water, my heart racing, beating, pump, pump, in my ears... Elle, eyes dark with wonder, I wanted to be nowhere else.
It was that terrifying moment when you are so happy that you are aware of it, that moment when you know if either of the people around you disappear you might just disappear too.

From His Eyes
Looking down at the sandy shores, I smell the fresh sea breeze. The cool wind whispers past my ears... sending shivers up my spine. My feet now feel out of my control as they pull me toward the crashing waves like a magnet. I look back to see him watching me, but I take every minute to soak in the magic of the ocean. The pure blue sky and endless clear sea... my breath seems lost in the moment. The deep shades of pink and yellow hibiscus flowers create a soft blanket over the salty waters. Closing my eyes... I hear the seagulls break the peaceful silence. His tall shadow appears next to me. "It really is breathtaking," I hear him say. "Yeah, it really is..." I whisper softly. My breath shudders at his touch. I look down and see his hand pulling mine toward the silk-like sand. "What the hell are you?" I screamed. The more I scooted away towards the darkness, the more their eyes glowed. I hyperventilated as they grew nearer and nearer. "Calm down, human. Come quietly and we might not kill you." I stumbled to my feet and ran. I didn't make it far before I was swiped off my feet. My body painfully hit the ground and I gasped for air. My aching body screamed at me to get up. I began to drag myself away. Even if I didn't make it, at least I tried. I was lifted and easily thrown into a tree. The force vibrated through my body. I coughed up blood as I landed. I lay on my stomach, unable to move. Is this how everything ends? Is this how I die? I can't die here. A foot stomped itself onto my back. An empty, breathless scream came out of me. "You stupid human. What a lowlife. I changed my mind. Who wants worthless trash like you? Die quickly, will you?" The pressure intensified by the second.
