We hear a lot about copyright...when it's coming into play. Celebrities and YouTube Personalities recently sued a game for using their trademark dance without permission. And then a bunch of old stories, poetry, and movies were released into the Public Domain. What does that even mean?

Everything created is legally protected, but it seems really confusing when those protections kick in. This guide is intended to provide a strong layman's introduction to the basic guidelines and considerations when working with copyright and copyrighted material, and share stories about how copyright has been applied and challenged in a variety of media.

(While this project is now marked completed, I may come back from time to time to add interesting stories and concerns I come across while doing my work.)
