1947, Los Angeles California. Detective Kurt Hughes does an investigation of a potential murder and fires at the wrong man killing him. He is not given any punishment for his crimes and acts out causing him to be jailed and fined but not for long as he escapes. Walking around undercover notices a young woman begging officers to continue the search for her missing son, but is called off after a few months. Knowing that he already has nothing to lose he decides to help her. Knowing that it is against federal law to perform an investigation, he can't bear to see her lose herself like he has, and will do anything to reunite mother and son.
