The plot centers around the emergence of a new alien breed known as the Chix. This aliens seem to have emerged from thin air, and have started killing off colonies in outlying planets. The central governments are divided between thousands of planets and races and are unable to decide on anything together with such diversity and large numbers. Therefore, the planets have taken to hiring mercenary gorups to find out information about the Chix, and the groups are payed well for any information.Will and his group are hot on the tail of a good lead when they find out that the other Merc groups are playing hardball.
