When Layla was seven years old she came home to a drunk dad and a new reality. Her best friend Annalise takes her to her Aunt Em's house to keep her safe for the night but when Layla goes back the next day her whole world is turned upside down. Her dad is gone, her mom is pregnant, and that's just the least of her problems when she finds out Annalise has Leukemia.

Now it's ten years later and Layla's seventeen. She lives part time with "Aunt Em" and her son Logan, and takes care of her little sister Jasmine, whenever her mom isn't around to do it for her.
