The sweat trickling down my back, the breeze against my warm face, the fire in my lungs, and the burning in my legs held my attention as I raced down the track. 

Getting first in state had always been my dream, and this was my last chance. 

I twisted my head to see how far ahead I was, and took a glance at the screaming stands. 

One person stood out. The one person that will always haunt my dreams. 

I tripped over my own feet and fell. I fell down into the darkness. I never hit a surface, but at one point, I stopped falling. The darkness swirled around me, whispering shades of red into my surroundings. 

Blood red smacked me in the face hard enough to leave my head spinning. 

But then it was gone, and what- or who- replaced it, was the author of my nightmares
