18-year-old Emily lives in the beat-up outskirts of Las Vegas. Ever since her mom walked out, four years ago, Emily was left on her own. Forced to quit school, she began working at the local diner, trying to feed herself and the man she used to call father, as he drank away what little they had.
One night, as she is on the night shift, a bloodied up stranger stumbles in, asking for help.
Before she knows it, Emily is dragged into a life filled with ups and downs, and the dream of a better life finally seems to become a reality. But life doesn't turn out to go the way she had hoped, and because of the person she thought would be the one to save her, Emily is forced through more violence and heartbreak than ever before.

Nixon leaves rehab early because he can't deal with being there anymore. His sister Kelis finds someone in need of a roommate so he moves in with the girl and gives her his middle name, Lucas. He quickly becomes addicted to the girl and once he gets one taste he's done for. He warns her about his past, about his name, but she ignores all the red flags, not realizing exactly how intertwined she is with the people from his past. He becomes enamored with her, feels like she was made for him while still battling the demons of his past and soon it all becomes too much for him to handle. He makes a heartbreaking decision, thinking it's what's best for both of them and everything changes.
