"Hey, Jay? We uh we really need to talk..." I held back a cough feeling the petals filling my mouth. I forced them back down my throat as my best friend of 12 years looked my way. "Yeah Lex, what's up? Is something bothering you?" I took a deep breath averting my eyes, fearful that if I made eye contact flowers would burst out of my neck and my next breath would be my last. "I know we're only fifteen and I know this is sudden and weird because we're great friends but... fuck... Well, what I mean to say is...why is this so hard..." I trailed off as I mumbled the last of that "sentence" if I can even call it that. "Have you heard of Hanahaki Disease?" Jay shook his head as I suspected. "It happens when you love someone but they don't love you back... It's a rare disease...flowers begin to grow in your lungs and body until you die or it's removed by surgery but then your feelings for that person are removed as well...and I can't "lose feelings" because I don't know how much I'll lose and I guess what I'm trying to say is... I uh... I... I love you Jay and I wish you loved me as I love you but you don't and that's okay." I walked away tears welling my eyes and petals falling to the floor.
