during the year of 2022 a new way to play games comes out the Nerve Gear and the first game for it Sword Art Online a new VRMMORPG. There one of the original beta testers Y/N or his game tag Shi is one of the lucky few who gets to play the game on opening day ends up being trapped in the game like everyone else. With the words "if you die in the game you die in real life" motivating him to beat the game and climb all 100 floors of SAO.  Along the way he meets other players and ends up becoming friends with them will he beat the game or die read to find out
