Hinata's parents paid a lot sum of money to join a luxurious cruise trip held for the families' elite sons and daughters of the country on board one of the most extravagant ships that has yet to set sail to the new world. Feeling inadequate due to his family being unremarkable, ordinary and pedestrian, Hinata dreams to escape the dull regimen his parents pose on him and venture out to the world.
Amidst his search for his life purpose, he grudgingly boards the ship and his eyes catch a peculiar young man with pale skin complexion, unruly white hair, tall and thin figure. He doesn't know what draws him to that man, but he can't seem to lift his eyes off of him. He gazes at him from afar; watching the sky as if he's contemplating about life and so he wonders if he is just like him.
Unknown to one another, this fateful encounter would later alter the course, their values, and their outlook in the remainder of their lives.

Nagito Komaeda is a mute boy. He's been mute his entire life, and fins himself to dream of what it would be like to speak, and being envious of those who do speak. WARNING: SPOILERS/STORYLINE DIFFERENCES/NOT COMPLETELY FOLLOWING STORYLINE "It was just a stupid dream. A stupid dream about Hajime. It wasn't real....... and it never would be. right?" Komaeda's fondness of Hinata-kun was of a close resemblance to his obsession with hope. Until his sleeping mind showed him his true desire. The dream revealed longing for Hinata-kun, yearn for him to finally see him, not as he sees himself, but as Hinata-kun sees him. In the dream, Komaeda was doing something stupid--like usual--teasing Hinata-kun and scaring others away from him with his poor social skills. Komaeda then spots a small yellow flower beside Hinata-kun's cottage. After picking it, he walks to Hinata-kun, holds the flower to him, and smiles. "A kind flower for a kind boy." he said. Hajime Hinata is on a class trip to Jabberwock Island with ultimate students at Hope's peak academy. Although he's with kids from school and would most likely get along with them...he feels a strange awkwardness when around them. There's a catch though, Hajime isn't really like the others; he doesn't have an ultimate. Because of that, he thinks the others might look down on him. But there is one student that looks down on him the most, Nagito Komaeda: the ultimate lucky student. He believes since Hajime doesn't have a talent, he's not valid like everyone else and decides to put him down for something he can't control. Hajime just wants to be friends with everyone, but because this inconvenience he's very insecure about being around the others, and distances himself. Then Kazuichi Souda and Chiaki Nanami decide to include him since they feel bad, they just want him to be happy. I Hate The Reserve Course
Hinata always admired Hopes Peak Academy. He always saw it as a place where people with incredible talent deserve to go to. So when Hinata never got a letter for the Main Course, he had no choice but to join the Reserve Course. He still attends the school, so what could even become a problem? Komaeda doesn't see his talent as a real one. He knows that luck isn't something that should be considered an achievement. Compared to all of the other talented individuals he shares a class with, Komaeda sees himself as a mere nobody. He knows that there's only one group of people that he is truly better than.
