Katara and her twin sister Kayta are benders from the Southern Water Tribe. However they do not bend the same element.
Katara is a waterbender, but Kayta is a firebender. That's not the only thing that is different about Kayta though. She has two different colored eyes, silver and amber, red hair, and she did not inherit the olive skin that her whole family has.
Kayta and her sister are extremely different, but they both want the same thing. To learn how to bend properly.
Maybe helping the Avatar will help Kayta understand why she is so different, and how to control such a difficult element.

This is a story about Soza ultimately, she does interact with canon character of course many of them are very important to her and her journey. I intend to really focus on the dynamic between the sisters and how that changes as their world views do. If you want to see the Fire Nation kids actually being kids at times this is the place. Suki also is more relevant in this than in canon. So yeah we love Suki here. There is a slow burn and it's wlw so if you don't like that please just don't read this. Again it's a slowburn. A lot of these characters are really emotionally unavailable and are in the middle of a war and fighting other kids they'd probably really get along with if not for the nation they were born in. So keep that in mind please.

After that, her father left to fight in the Hundred Year War, along with all the other grown warriors, and Makki and her siblings were put under the care of their Gran Gran. She grew up practicing her bending and helping Katara with all the chores, while their brother practiced his fighting skills and tried teaching the younger boys of their village. Makki's siblings followed their destiny of helping Aang master all four elements while Makki was stuck on a path with the Fire Nation Prince Zuko and his uncle Iroh.
