In Volume 1, Melanie arrived in Fairy Tail and made five friends: Natsu, Happy, Lucy, Gray, and Erza. Throughout the volume, Melanie becomes a S-Class Wizard, Gray becomes attracted to Melanie, and Melanie discovers that her parents and her family have been murdered by Zeref, a Spirit of Darkness, who was currently possessing Melanie's cousin, Daniel Kahoko.

Melanie, along with a newcomer, Aurelie Celacia, her friends, and Fairy Tail, travel to Tenroujima Island to find Daniel, so this problem won't go out of hand.

And so, they did.
