America is the last functioning society in a world scarred by the nuclear warfare of WWIII that supposedly destroyed most of earth's resources a few hundred years earlier. In order to ensure the continuation of only the most "valuable" to society, every citizen, upon graduation of secondary education, is sent to the Darwin Project. Left in groups on the shores of various islands off the coast of America, each person faces the wilderness with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the assurance that those who survive will be picked up in one year's time and welcomed back into society. The only rule? Survive. However, 17 year old Jessalyn Sharde will soon find that everything is not as it seems. Freed from the constraints of society, teens face an unknown land where everyone is both and ally and an enemy in survival. But she begins to suspect that there is more to the project than she realizes. The government has secret motivations of its owns, and Jess will continue on a path of danger, deception, and trial that will force her to confront the secrets of her past and the painful realizations of the present to uncover the truth behind the Darwin Project.
