He thought he could handle it. Thought he could handle seeing them together, Simon and Chloe. And she thought she could handle it. Being with the brother that liked her, but not the brother that she liked-at least not like that. They thought they could handle the pain of liking each other and not knowing what the other feels, and handle the pain of knowing that if he found out, Simon would feel betrayed. And even though they told themselves they could handle it, that they were fine, all Chloe and Derek wanted to do was tell each other the three words they'd been holding in for so long: I love you.
Note: This takes place after The Reckoning, except Chloe and Simon's date didn't fail and Chloe and Derek didn't end up together-yet. And credit to leelee2489 for the cover art!
