"You don't need to worry, you can trust me. You can always trust me."

River has lived a pretty abnormal life to begin with, but now is pushed out of their usual bubble.

With old friends off in various places, River ends up making new ones and getting pulled in all sorts of adventures that end rather poorly. Adventures that sometimes pull them apart just to bring them back, closer than ever. Adventures that deal with ghosts, storms, and into finding things they don't understand.

But this isn't even the tip of the iceberg. A mysterious man keeps visiting River, telling them to call him 'C' or 'Catalyst'. He whispers praise, promise of power and promptings. River knows there's something wrong with him but it's hard to resist what he offers.

"I'm just like you." Catalyst tells River. "I can make you stronger. I can teach you things that nobody else can. All I need from you is your cooperation."

And how can an offer like that go untouched?

River learns of secrets hidden deep where nobody wanted them to be found, learns new things, and starts to grow to realize that not everything is as it seems, and wonder if Catalyst is the only one who doesn't lie to them. They're not the only one, their friends meet somebody who knows a lot more than he's letting on and they all start to see something more sinister going on.

Lies and history thought forgotten, brought to the light.
Betrayal and torture beating down on those who get in the way.
Ghosts and a secret organization called 'Dissolve' who spring up from the darkness.

River is getting in too deep, and it's getting awfully hard to breath...

There's no light in the eternal darkness of the Hadal Zone.

"You know, don't you?" I took a deep breath. His gaze was still on me. "What do you mean-" "Don't play dumb," he cut me off, and I swallowed. "I..." I paused and stared at the ground. "I don't know much... I don't know yet." "Do you know who I am?" I shook my head. "I know you're not normal." I looked up. "But I don't know why." His eyes flashed silver as I tried to read his expression, but came up empty. "I know your eyes change color because of your emotions. But I don't know what it means." As the room fell silent, he averted his gaze. ******* On her first day on campus, Rayline Hale, an average girl just starting college, never thought her world would change. We must focus on guiding the Magic; not controlling it. For it is through controlling it we allow it to control ourselves. Time between dimensions is in a constant state of flux. There is no way of saying how many years have passed, nor how many will. However, the saying remains the same: "Yesterday was history, Tomorrow is a mystery, But today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." =+=+=+= This is another Hermitcraft fanfiction, set in a season eight/nine AU (Evolution-EmpiresS1-HCS8-HCS9-Watcher AU). I don't own any of the characters; they belong to the Hermits as their Minecraft Personas. This book also sporadically features Evolution and Empires SMP characters. Pearl is the main character, but there are a few backstories followed as well. The first part of the chapter will always be Pearl, and the second a backstory (with a few exceptions when the chapter gets extra-long). Answer the chapter questions if you feel like it, even if you live in the mysterious future. I don't ship. I'm not certain about the hermit preferences, so I'd prefer to leave that to them and portray all of them as amazing friends (which they are). =+=+=+= There will be angst to satisfy your hunger. Enjoy, fellow angst-thirsty hermittpadders. If you're a hermit from Hermitcraft, an emperor from Empires, a former Evolutionist, or involved in some central way to this story reading this and you dislike the content, I am more than happy to edit or take the story down entirely. I respect the wishes of those I fanfiction about. Cover design made with Canva.

If you have to take drastic action to solve a problem, you have to do something basic and extreme to solve it. **** The scientific term metamorphosis isn't something that pertains to physical change alone. It goes deeper than that. "Like how deep?" You might be wondering. Well, it can go in immensely deep. To the point were...A person. One you've grown to know right from childhood. For practically ALL YOUR LIFE. Probably as well as the back of your hand. To seem...entirely different! From what they used to be. Or rather, who you thought they truly were. Then again! I believe it only goes to show us the full spectrum of human behavior. It reveals something quietly laiden within ourselves. Our TRUE selves. So reason deeply, and tell me, What do you believe? **** "Er..I believe that...the term, holds a certain kind of eminence. N'that, whomever we are, be us young or old, everyone, everywhere! is susceptible to equal, unparalleled change! Besides, don't the most beautiful things come from the most unlikely places?" **** Everyone has their own views and opinions. Still, they all seem to forget the most important thing. They forget that CHANGES can be for good, AND for bad. It can bring the beautiful AND the ugly. It can pave a path of light OR darkness. Just because a chrysalis is breaking open, that doesn't mean a magical butterfly is gonna come fluttering out! These people FORGET! That moths? They go through the same stages too. But you? Do you believe people do change? Or are you under the impression that they don't? Or...is it the changes people can go through that is hard to believe? Don't worry, you only have to follow the stages accordingly. ....ARE YOU READY?

Trigger warning - Severely sensitive topics. Around 25 years ago, an unknown virus plagued the Earth- targeting none other than fresh genetic codes. Humans, animals, plants, any living matter that comes in contact with it quickly faces its immense mutational power, sparking nothing but unruly destruction. This living nightmare took more than a simple adaptation, it forced a complete overhaul of daily life. Yet, despite humanity's best efforts to do so- cities plummeted to the ground, nations obliterated in chaotic arrays of fire, countries infected by the scourge of war and madness. Humanity was driven to the brink of extinction. In a desperate attempt to survive these conditions, humanity came up with something to protect them. Colonies. A radius considered a "Safe Zone" due to the infected's inability to infiltrate its perimeter. It became the perfect habitat for the remnants of mankind to rebuild society. On the flip-side, the infected create nests that produce genetic amalgams beyond human comprehension, attracting many others of their kind. It is assumed that their sole objective is to infect the world. Propagate. Consume. These are called "Contamination Zones", and their increased numbers have caused dozens of Colonies, and outposts alike, to suffer breaches and irreversible changes all over the continent. The infected are ruthlessly growing stronger. Kayden Moss has had a glimpse into this world's horrors. Pulling himself from place to place, in order to simply awaken to fight another day. But luck was on his side, at 19 years old. He came across a peculiar Colony named Zamaton, where he's lived for the last 3 years. News of these breaches reach the Warden, Rhys, who demands preventive measures immediately. Kayden, unaware, is summoned to the office. He assumes it's either an important matter, or another earful regarding his actions. Depending on the actions taken, the breaches might remain far away from the Colony. Or so it seems.

The Infected Mind

34 parts Complete

[Book 1] Crawlers: once normal people like you or me. They had hobbies, families, friends, interests, but now they are feral monsters. The infection spread, wiping out almost half the human race, and leaving the rest as either Crawlers or Survivors. The infected's eyes will black out, before giant, black, bug-like legs will rip out of their back, giving them a newfound speed and agility, as well as an insatiable bloodlust. Body fluids entering any open wound, including the eyes, mouth, and nose, will seal the person's fate; they are now infected. It won't be long before they start screeching at the moon in a mock howl. The problem is, I am infected. I turned but retained most of my humanity. With my new lifestyle in a new world, I can't expect anything or anyone to act as I predict. My biggest question is, can I save my humanity? Or will I simply become part of the mindless feral swarm?
