In the low visibility of the dark, winter night, Caelia ran her left hand along a section of the frozen cliff face in front of her, searching. Her hand paused over an invisible spot on the surface and she pressed her palm against the stone, feeling its icy touch. Several moments passed, until finally a mirrored arch twice her height flickered in and out then appeared before her. It still works, but barely, she thought to herself. As she was about to step through, she caught her reflection in the dark rippling mirror and stood still, transfixed before it. Has it come to this? What she saw was not how she appeared to others. She had grown comfortable in her adopted native skin and had almost forgotten the ancient woman staring vacantly back at her with deep red, translucent eyes. "Hello Aletheia, ancient queen of a dead race," she said to herself, contemplating the weariness of the woman in the mirror - the only mirror in all of Eos that did not lie to her. Why do I keep coming here? Touching her hand to her reflection caused ripples across its surface as if it were water. She stood still, lost in thought. Because they're here.

Author Note: This story is currently being revised. Chapters may be updated. They took her sight, her throne, and her trust. But when the storms rise, so does she. Now Eira must choose. Between running and love, between the crown and the one man she cannot lose. They say the island remembers. Its six points rise like blades from the sea, carved not by time but by will-old will, war-forged and sealed with blood. Once, long ago, there was peace. But peace is a fragile lie, and power has a taste too rich for those born too close to thrones. And so the old king fell. A new line rose, crowned not by right, but by betrayal. And from that line came a bride. Untitled, unwilling, and dangerous without knowing it. Her name was Eira. She was never meant to refuse. She was never meant to survive. Blinded by treachery, betrayed by blood, she was given as bait to lure a boy who would be king. But she was paired with another. Chosen. The island woke. And in the dark, where eyes fail and truth sharpens, Eira rose. Not with sight, but with vision. And the island was watching. And love was by her side. This is the story of the girl who failed every test. Until the one that mattered. And of the man who loved her not for her power, but for her resistance to it. Before Eira, there was only fear. After her, nothing would be the same. Now updated with a never-before-seen three-part prequel! Read to the end for the icy origin of Lucan and Eira's bond.
