Thump — a faint vibration in the earth followed a gust of wind. Four dinosaur-foot-shaped depressions appeared in the grass. Further away, past the depressions, goal posts and trees blurred as if hidden behind slightly translucent glass. Then, it wasn’t so translucent. A shape solidified from thin air, slowly, condensing into a shimmering mist. The legs came first, trunks like small trees reaching up to muscular shoulders, perhaps twice his height. The body manifested, enormous, easily the length of a full-sized bus from tail tip to chest. Wings came into view, curling around the body at a distance, like a webbed exoskeleton growing in time lapse. Finally, the head appeared — horns and nostrils and teeth like daggers — connected to the chest by a long neck. It wore silver like a second skin, as if coated in polished scalemail — everything except its spines, claws and other bony protrusions. Like a broken mirror, it reflected the moon and stars. All in all, it was a nightmarish beast, one that in no way, shape or form resembled Wren...or any human for that matter. He took a step back. *** Elias, a professional thief, trains a strange girl named Wren. What will happen when he learns she’s attracted to him and when he discovers she can transform into a dragon? What will happen if she ever reveals her darkest secret?
