When Vita's parents die, she is taken in by her horrible Uncle Charles, who raises her into the world of black magic. Vita, not knowing she is doing evil, follows in her Uncle's footsteps and becomes incredibly powerful, still not knowing about the fact that such a thing as white, or good magic exists. Vita has only one friend and that is Jarvis Flint, the son of a very powerful sorcerer  (and Vita does not know) One day, she and Jarvis run away and go through the  Forest that is forbidden and stumble across a girl with short black hair who leads them to her father's School for Apprentices, where Vita meets new friends and uncovers startling secrets and unseen truths, including how her parents died.
