They had won the battle but Hermione was just about to find out how much she'd lost. If the last thing Fred remembered was in her fourth year of Hogwarts then he wouldn't remember anything of their story. Anything of how he fell for her, how they first kissed or how she first realised she wouldn't ever be happy with anyone else so long as he walked the Earth. Her Fred was gone. And it was all her fault. She had thought their story was unforgettable. Until it wasn't. **** "I think about you a lot Granger... like a lot a lot" He finally admitted. "You better be joking Weasley" She breathes shallowly as she backs against the wall. His hands found their way to the wall on either side of her head and she was cornered. Her breath quickened and she was sure he could hear her heart beating. "Not this time Granger." He smiled that damned smile that had already gotten her into so much trouble as he leaned down towards her.

Being best friends with Fred Weasley means three things: detention, chaos and zero peace. Florence has survived years of pranks, secret passages and being dragged into trouble she definitely didn't plan. Fred is loud, reckless, impossible to say no to, and somehow he's also her safest place. Then fifth year hits, and everything feels different. Laughs last longer. Glances mean more. And Florence realises the worst possible thing she could ever realise: she's falling for her best friend. A boy who flirts with everyone, fears nothing, and would never, ever feel the same. Content Warning: This story contains mature themes, including explicit sexual content. "Since when did you get wise?" Fred shrugs. "Watching someone you care about come frighteningly close to not getting back up again tends to rearrange your priorities." I glance back at him then-and something in his expression softens, like he's relieved I'm still here, still talking, still breathing. "And just for the record," he adds, tone easy, almost offhand, though his eyes are anything but, "if a Dementor so much as drifts in your direction again, I'll personally see it launched into the lake." I can't stop the small laugh that escapes me. "You really think you can single-handedly protect me from every dangerous thing in the world?" "I'd bloody well try." I lift my eyes to his, properly this time. It's only then that I realise how close he is-how his whole focus is fixed entirely on me like nothing else in the room matters. And something aches in my chest-sharp and soft all at once. The kind of ache that reminds you you're alive. That you've survived worse. That maybe you're allowed moments like this.
