1,072 years ago, the sun went out. When it first happened, a select group of people were chosen to go into an underground government bunker. They were later named "The Sun People." The rest of the human race perished. The Sun People and their descendants spent centuries building a new life and expanding their civilization, which they called, "The Concave."

The Concave's wealthiest government family, the Coppers, had maintained peace in their underground world for centuries.

But when The Concave's doors are finally opened, the Sun Descendants realize that they aren't the only ones who survived.

It is the Watcher's job to hide in the trees and scan the clearing, that lies before the forest's border, for monsters on the Venture days. It is the Venturers job to leave the forest borders on Venture days, and run into desolate cities to steal food, bedding and supplies that they need to survive. There is only one rule; never get caught. Venturer Dawn finds herself in a dangerous situation when she breaks the one rule. Dawn is caught by a monster, and not just any monster, but a monster who works as a Protector for their kind. I was never meant to leave that room. I had spent my whole life in there, imagining what it was like on the outside. I looked forward to the day when I would finally be allowed to leave. But that day was never supposed to come. Until James decided to keep his promise. He had always been there, on the other side of the glass. Waiting. The experiment wasn't over. He was still waiting for me to change. But I didn't change. Not until that night. It was dark, and there was rain. The sound of the car engine was loud, but the crash was louder. In the crash, I became something different. I changed. But not for James. This new part of me emerged for one reason; to save her.
