At the end he finally broke Deidara completely, Itachi didn't realized his love for him was more like a obsession until he started to notice difference in Deidara's behaviour as he suddenly become submissive and stopped resisting. Deidara had to face death many times and he only found peace when he got seriously ill for sexual assaults and stayed unconscious on bed most of the time for what he didn't needed to see Itachi's face.
