Dark Urban Fantasy | Vampire | Romance | LGBTQ+

Aura hated her work. Hated her life and hated her entire existence. She thought she ended it all but then she wakes up to the Aztec Deity of Death sitting on her toilet, telling her she has been given a second chance.

Aura is thrust into a new life where deities are real, those who used to be mortals have died and risen from the grave and she has apparently enemies dead set on taking her down.

When she is drugged at a gathering, her deity Xipe Totec gets more and more secretive. There's something he isn't telling her and the other previously mortal people in their brood. And Aura is definitely not content with being kept in the dark.

There's a path to enlightenment, but maybe it's not paved with morale.

The Gifts of Mortality, de eleanorkennedy14
41 capítulos Concluído
The gods have no pity for humans and their impermanence. Why would they care for lives measured in years, when time marches into millennia for them? The immortals stay in their city. The humans remain in their parts of the world. That is until a human terrorist group gains control over the Goddess of Death, forcing her to kill their enemies and increase their power. All immortals keep their backs turned on humanity. Except Samil, the God of Festivals and the Arts. Samil knows he isn't very powerful among his kind. Or important. Or confident. Yet, when he learns that the humans are desperate, he chooses to do a deceptively simple thing: Help them. ___________________________________ @Voyageavecmoi was kind enough to write this review of my book and she described it 100x better than I ever could lol. With her permission, I'm posting it below. Also, check out her book "Flight Risk." It's a sweet and deep romance about two characters negotiating their feelings for each other while life is doing everything to tear them apart. The characters have such mature conversations and, there's no reliance on the miscommunication trope at all. I'm *obsessed.* If you enjoy intriguing fantasy novels with deep and thoughtful themes, check out 'The Gifts of Mortality' by @eleanorkennedy14 . It explores the concept of mortality and how it gives life meaning through the eyes of both gods and humans. The story follows Samil, the god of the Festivals and the Arts, who is shocked by the apathy of his fellow gods when a human terrorist group gains control over the Goddess of Death. Despite finding no support among his kind, he's determined to help the humans, which sets him down an interesting course. There are lots of great twists in this novel, and I also loved seeing how queerness was worked in throughout both the immortal and mortal realms. Samil is a sweet and refreshing character to root for who is determined to see the good in the world.

We've all heard the tales of good and bad, the tales of innocent deceit and her hero, the tales that despite their nature, show us the beauty in contrast. But it's the tales of pure evil that get swept under the rug. The tales of deception, where cruelty is rewarded. The tales that have you questioning who the real villain of the story is. There's a simple philosophy to most thing in life; two wrongs 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 make a right. So what ensues when you put two of the worst kinds of people together? Frej Rising (After Death Chronicles)

43 capítulos Concluído Maduro

Dark Historical Fantasy | Vampire | Romance | LGBTQ+ Frej was the seer's apprentice. He was supposed to be the link between the gods and his village. But when he was chosen to be sacrificed, he didn't decline. He revelled in being chosen for such an honour; an audience with Freja herself. Except it's not the Norse deity of Love that greets him when he wakes on his sacrificial pyre: it's the Aztec deity of Death; Xipe Totec. After spending a month together in a small cabin, they're in love. Frej is whisked away from Dania to East Anglia, having to leave his Viking ways behind and enter higher society, ruled by politics he's entirely ignorant about. Frej is eager to learn from his lover, but it proves harder than he realised. Having to fight for their relationship, everything is put to the test; Frej's sanity, his humanity, his beliefs and everything he thought he stood for. Giving in to the deity is too easy. Giving in to the night is not, when you're born in fire. ____________ Featured on @WattVampires' March Madness showcase. Featured on @HistoricalFiction's "Historical Fantady/Fairytales" reading list.
