Haylee Merrick has always felt so claustrophobic. Her misunderstanding mother breathing down her neck every minute of every day. Her father always away on important business overseas. The pressure to do well in school. It seems books and music are the only people that are a constant understanding in her life. Now she's eighteen years old, and has moved out of her Dunedin home, to Auckland University campus. She thought this would be freedom for her, finally. Yet she still feels so caged.

"Everyone hopes for that perfect life, but me I just want to be happy. Maybe this new school will help. I don't know anymore. Everything was okay until it happened. Now I'm moving away and trying to find ways to cope. I remember her smile. I remember everything she did for me even though we didn't have a lot of money. She did everything she could to make me happy. As I look out the window tears slowly run down my face. " Change is different and new but it may end up being be better than you thought.
