Dutch troops and merchants of West Indie Company are coming to Portuguese colony to create a New Netherlands and New Amsterdam in the Brazilian Northeast Region, rich in sugar, salt and flour.

New Amsterdam" is a historical novel  filled with action and adventure, permeated by a romantic plot where fictional characters mingle with real figures.

A fascinating (but tragic) love story unfolding during the Dutch invasion of the Northeastern Brazilian coast. The scenery is the Captaincy of Rio Grande do Norte. The action begins in 1633 (when the Dutch arrive in the small village of Natal to found New Amsterdam) and ends in 1645 (with the massacres of Catholic Christians in two communities).

It's   the story of two young people, Bernarda  and Rafael , moved by a rapturous passion, a feeling strong enough to face this period of disputes bloodthirsty among Dutch Protestants, Portuguese Catholics and wild Indians. A period where intolerance, violence and barbarism spoke louder.

In the midst of the war, the cruel figure of Jacob Rabbi emerges, a German Jew who comes to Rio Grande to help the Dutch in negotiations with the Indians.
