Lucy Rose has just gone to the beach to spend her summer holidays at home with her grandmother. She recently finished an art degree but has found out that her grandmother, violet, is dying from lung cancer. So she has decided to begin her greatest project; painting her grandmother before she dies. She know I has to be just right so that her grandmothers memory stays alive. And that is quite a task!
Her grandmother meanwhile, has other ideas. For Lucy has never had a boyfriend and she plans to change that so that she can die knowing that Lucy won't be alone. She has one boy in particular in mind for Lucy: Ellis Williams, the sweet and kind boy next door.
