Kelly, her rival's bestfriend, was found dead behind her school. She had been beaten to death with a hockey stick, and sliced up like a fish. 
Two months after the savage murder, L is sentenced to twenty years in a maximum security mental instatution, where she finds that there are much worse things than mean rivals.
