Jasper is a winter spirit and he hasn't been able to get a certain human out og his head. He saved Ember many years ago when he was lost in the woods and he kept an eye on him ever since.

Ember has felt like he was being watched ever since he was 14 and got lost in the woods in the middle of a blizzard. If you asked him how he survived he say he just stumbled around until he found the house, but what really happened was someone saved him. He knew now that it was completely ridiculous. No one could have been out there with him; despite that thought he couldn't forget about the boy who looked slightly younger than him who led him out of the woods.
