Rachelyn. That was it. That was her name. No last name. Taking a last name meant attachment. Attachment meant that it would be harder to leave. Rachelyn is a 16-year-old girl in the foster system. She's had a rough life, but not in the way most believe. Yes, her parents are gone, but Rachelyn's life has a few extra twists and turns that many don't experience. Could she be reborn when she meets Lin-Manuel Miranda and his crazy life? While it sounds like your typical adopted by Lin story, give it a chance. I promise you won't regret it. Safiya is fifteen, her little brother Callan is nine. After years filled with violence, fear, and manipulation within their family, the two children are rescued from their home - but at first, the rescue doesn't feel like freedom. They go through several foster families, each time facing new rules, expectations, and disappointments. Only their bond with each other gives them strength. Safiya lives in a world between reality and fantasy. When the fear becomes too overwhelming, she escapes in her mind into a fanfiction where she is the main character - braver, more confident, seen. But when she and Callan eventually come under the care of Lin-Manuel Miranda and his family, something begins that Safiya never thought possible: trust. While Callan quickly opens up and begins to feel at home, Safiya struggles with guilt, jealousy, and the deep longing to finally stop living in constant fear. She must learn that true family is more than blood, that closeness isn't always dangerous, and that sometimes it's okay not to be strong.
