Altered

It is the year 2500. What was once the seven continents is now a thousand independently governed provinces. What was once a trustworthy government is now a regime of deception and treachery. What was once a community is now a prison cell.

Johanna Parker lives amid one of these societies, Erona, which requires its fifteen-year-olds to undergo a mandatory shot which was supposed to "sharpen the adolescent brain." And she believes these lies that have been fed to her until she goes through the process herself, and discovers she is immune to the chemical inserted in her. And that the purpose of the shots was to turn humans into mindless automatons, programmed to obey every single command of the authorities.

But the mendacities don't stop there. Now transferred into Senior School which harbors a dangerous secret of its own, Johanna and her allies realize that it was time to stage an escape plan, to flee Erona forever. But how can they, with all the intense security? How can they, when they would be leaving their loved ones and thousands of innocent citizens behind? How can they, when the rest of the world could have warped people of its own?
