"I’ve always thought about the way I would die. And in those thoughts, I could never escape the utter inevitability that I would die in The Cleansings. The Cleansings took my father and now they will take me. It is my turn to die. It is my turn to serve society. I will offer our government the greatest offer there is to ever offer: my life." Set in the distant future, teenager Gavin Dwyer lives in the perfect utopian city. However fifty years ago, his city was not so perfect. Crime and overpopulation led the government to usher in a new era. An era without impurities. The answer his government came up with: The Cleansings. An annual event, where a handful of individuals who have no use to society are carefully chosen, and executed at a public celebration. When Gavin Dwyer is chosen, he takes it as it is - a death sentence. However, not everything is how it seems in his seemingly perfect society. © 2014

I never really was made to be in Abnegation. I didn't ever fit in. All of the selflessness - I just couldn't do it. I couldn't forget myself in a matter of seconds then turn to another in need. I always thought of myself and what I would be like when I was older. Would I live in Abnegation? Could I learn to forget myself eventually? No. It just wouldn't happen. Life is never that easy in Abnegation, for me, at least. (incomplete)
