Jenna was abandoned on the doors of Xavier's school for gifted youngsters two weeks after her sixth birthday, and that's the only memory she has of her real family. They were nothing but a blur in her mind, and she had learned to accept that. However, the powers that they had rejected her for were of, apparently, some interest to S.H.I.E.L.D. They hired her to protect a Wakandan ambassador, and this ultimately lead to a terrifying run-in with the Winter Soldier. Years later they meet again, but he's a completely different person.
