There are two sides to the world. Our side, an the other side. On the other side everyone has a doppelgänger, you and your copy will both die at the same time. You and your copy look alike and have the same name, but not personality or life. You don't even have the same family. Also, you and your copy will not do the same things. The "aware" are the one who know about both sides. There are very few people that are aware. Nagase Girita, however, can unconsciously control what his copy does. Yata Samitsuki, is an aware from the other side who is sent to our side to keep watch over Nagase. She will try to keep him from doing something that will cause trouble on the other side.
