"Ready" "Steady" The whistle echoed through the yard, signalling for everyone to start running. The wind blew west like the growling waves of the ocean hitting hard on the shore. I increased the pace of my running, fighting the breeze that was blowing hard on my face. I could barely keep my eyes open, due to the cold, damp air hitting off my eyes. The roaring sound of the thunderstorm could be heard through the lightening speed of my legs. I loved this moment. It was just perfect. There were no worries, no school... Absolutely nothing to take over this feeling. I knew it wouldn't last forever but it was enough to make my day. I zoned out of the world that was around me and only focused on what was ahead of me. The happiness, feeling of satisfaction took over me when I saw that I was ahead of everyone else. I loved that feeling. A giant smile made its way on my face as I raced faster toward the finishing line. I was almost there... I closed my eyes to feel the wind take over my body.... Almost... I felt someone's breathing level with mine, breathing faster as they made their way closer behind me. I shot my eyes open to see a shadow appearing closer and closer. My head turned to the side to see a medium height girl, with long brown hair tied up in a ponytail. Small, yet legible curls rested beyond her shoulder blades. I was met with light brown eyes, gazing back at me before they passed ahead to be in lead in the race. I forced myself to run faster than I possibly could, dragging my feet closer and closer towards the finishing line. We were racing at the same pace, our shoulders in level with each other. I had to win this race... I just had to. * What happens when the schools star runner gets defeated by the new girl while everyone in the school is there to see the show unload? Will this lead to a new rivalry between the two athletes or will they choose to turn their back to each other and go back to their kid of normal life? Read more to find out!

"The moon's really beautiful, if you think about it," I blurted. "Yeah?" he asked, mild amusement and curiosity mingling in his voice. "Yeah," I confirmed. "It's just- there's something about the moon that's ethereal. I don't really know how to describe it, but it's a constant in life. You can't always see it, but you have to trust that it's out there somewhere. And when you can see it, it's all bright and shiny and overcomes the darkness." I paused, searching for the right words. "I don't know. I guess it's a reminder that there are good things out there, even if you can't see them... And it's cool to think that someone hundreds of miles away is staring at the exact same moon as you. It makes me feel not so alone in life." Turning my head, I saw him staring at me intently with a thoughtful look on his face. "Too deep for a Friday night?" I laughed nervously, feeling my face grow hot. And this was precisely why I didn't go to parties. He shook his head and seemed to snap out of his daze. "It was deep in a good way." *** SHE was quiet & left out.
