There are 3 parts of a shadow: The umbra, penumbra and antumbra

Mikal Grey is the new professors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, ready to teach and introduce an entirely new field: Affective Sciography. A completely unique form of magic where the user controls objects by manipulating it's shadow. Not only that, but after extensive teaching and studying, one will eventually learn how to read a person based entirely on their shadow. This area of study has it's scholars learning how to understand someone not based on what they say, but what they feel. The intimacy and integrity needed in this field are deep, yet everyone expresses these traits differently. Entering the class makes you vulnerable, but you end up with an impenetrable sense of perception and a clear understanding of how each person's mind works.

This down to earth, eccentric and inspiring teacher will have his work cut out for him. He'll need to teach the students of his class to dig deeper than just what people say and how they act. To use their magic to be able to tap in and see the intentions and motivations that spur people on to do what they do. Not everyone cares or is cut out for it, but those who decide to pursue this new field will not only learn about themselves, but the hidden personalities and secrets of their classmates, as well as their mysterious teacher.

Find the love for learning again after the horrors of Voldemort and the Great War, as Hogwarts rebuilds it's reputation and prestige.

Aurora Beauchanan is many things, and apparently being a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is about to be added to that list. With quite a few secrets that are better left untold, and befriending not only Harry, but the Weasley's and their friends as well, her whole life is about to be turned upside down, even more so when she meets the enigmatic Potions Professor, Severus Snape...And as Severus tries to unravel the mysterious personality of the young witch that seems unphased by his ill tempered and harsh disposition, he can't help but be curious about the unabashed and defiant Gryffindor who seems to present more trouble than she is worth. With a spirited character and an attitude to match, Aurora finds that blending in and keeping a low profile don't exactly make for an easy life, especially with the Triwizard Tournament around the corner. When nothing is as it seems, how is she supposed to distinguish between what's real and what isn't? Say....feelings about a certain potions professor that she can't seem to stay away from? As the secrets and mysteries pile up around her while her past threatens to expose itself, Aurora will have to overcome insurmountable odds and decide who she can trust as her life hangs in the balance. After all, sometimes things aren't about doing the right thing, but doing what needs to be done. This story takes place during the events of The Goblet of Fire. Soulmate AU with a bit of a twist, since happy endings don't necessarily last forever. Note: This is a rough draft, and the first round of editing changed the POV from first to third person. It's still being edited, so a second draft should take care of any remaining grammatical errors and the like. Thank you for sticking with this story, and I hope you enjoy it!

Harry and Jenny kept yelling at her that Voldemort had returned, and both of them got detentions which made James very angry, until Harry said something harsh. "Oh, so Cedric Diggory just dropped dead of his own accord, then, did he?" He snarled. I growled and clenched my fists together tightly. Umbridge turned cold and heartless, and she said, "Cedric Diggory's death was a tragic accident." "Like your life!" James hissed, standing up and storming away from the classroom. There was a loud silence. "Detention!" Umbridge called after him, trying to preserve herself. "Voldemort killed him and you know it." Harry stomped up to Umbridge's desk and they exchanged something before Harry left the room. I got up too, "If this is the way you're teaching, I'd rather have been notified so I could stay at home with my m-" I caught myself, "People." I hissed and not-so-gracefully made my way out of the room and after James.
