Abernathy is a Shielder. Willow could be too, but she has to pass the tests to earn the title and be given the name Shielder Carruther V. It won't be easy. She has to go to the edge - the fringe - and it requires her to stop time. Abernathy says she's not ready, but yet he brings her there.
Everything in the fringe is different. Down is up - up is down. Turvy is topsy. Things that go bump in the night here, exist there. Magic is alive in the fringe and Willow needs to learn to harness energy and keep all the horrible things from leaving the fringe and entering the regular world through ley lines and portals. And, if that wasn't enough, Abernathy has gone missing and his magic is failing. Willow needs help if she's to keep the wild things from breaching the fringe. But what comes to assist, she never expects to see in her wildest dreams.
