Micheal Collins, being only known as the 'Gay Guy' by people in his small school, is harassed by a childhood acquaintance, Austin Hower and his basketball goons, almost daily. Micheal tries to ignore their constant berating, but always has to react in some way. His childhood friend, and longtime crush, Erik Murphy, gets protective at times, which gives Micheal ideas that may be wrong or right. Everything goes awry when Micheal and Austin get paired on a History project, and they are forced to spend unwanted time together.
Micheal and Austin see sides of each other that they've never seen, starting on the first day, and Erik gets worried with the sudden change in the two's changing relationship.
